Mark Gagliardi (Gag-lee-ar’-dee) is with the City of Oakland, CA Public Works Agency’s Environmental Services Division, and has an academic background in quantitative analysis, finance, and resource economics.
He has over 25 years operations and administrative management experience in sustainability and waste reduction, with half a dozen cities and consultants on the right and left coasts; and with the youth development, job-training, and educational non-profit East Bay Conservation Corps (now Civicorps; www.cvcorps.org) in Oakland, CA.
Mark’s primary project work is developing and implementing Oakland’s Zero Waste Sustainability Initiative (www.zerowasteoakland.com). He was staff lead in establishing Oakland’s Zero Waste Goal, lead author of Oakland’s 2006 Zero Waste Strategic Plan, and Zero Waste staff lead for Oakland’s Energy & Climate Action Plan and greenhouse gas inventory.
Mark has chaired the Executive Committee of the Recyclers Global Warming Council (http://www.crra.com/rgwc/) of the California Resources Recovery Assn. (http://www.crra.com/) since 2009, and served a member since it was chartered in 2007. He received CRRA’s Service Award in 2014 in recognition of the Council’s work under his leadership in monitoring, researching and advocating an array of Zero Waste Climate Protection initiatives. Mark is a semi-professional musician and avid outdoor enthusiast, who thanks God for the blessings of his daily bicycle commute, family life with his spouse and two kids, and the richness of life both indoors and outdoors in the #OaklandBayArea.
